School Smart KC HQ

DATE: 2017    ROLE: Architecture & Interior Design  COST: $300,000 inclusive of furniture     SIZE: 5,000 SF

SchoolSmartKC focuses its energy and financial support to develop, expand, and fortify schools and programs that demonstrate tangible improvement within the Kansas City Public School district boundaries. Together with three other non-profit organizations, SSKC moved out of the Kauffman Foundation to its first headquarters in the Midtown area and heart of Kansas City, Missouri. Odimo provided architecture, interior design, furniture specification, and systems coordination for this 5,000 sf hub for community and non-profit leaders collaborating around a central issue in our city.

The space was an existing building that had been vacant for decades. Working hand-in-hand with the building owner and construction group, the Odimo team crafted an open plan integrating an executive level board room with community workshop space and small break out rooms. Branded as “The Hive”, the color in the space is intended to come from those who inhabit and activate the space. The design is a simple background of grays and blues with highly functional, flexible furniture, and an abundance of natural light and collaborative tools.
