Located in West Tennessee, about 1.5 hours from Memphis, Lone Oaks farm includes 1,200 acres of diverse ecologies; pastures, woodlands, trails, and lakes. After acquiring the farm, the University of Tennessee commissioned a master plan to transform it into a 4-H Center that offers education, conservation, hospitality, tourism, and community development while remaining a working farm. The Hunter Education Center is the first phase of design and construction to emerge from this effort.  Inspired by the existing agrarian structures on the property, the building takes a simple form while utilizing updated performance standards to create a contemporary and durable facility.  The project is situated at the edge of a meadow to cause minimal disturbance to the local ecology, with the two primary structures composed to maximize views to the shooting fields and surrounding beauty.  Approximately 7,000 square feet of meeting rooms, classroom, catering kitchen, outdoor pavilion, and pro shop support the various sporting games, including clays, trap, skeet, and 5-stand.  The result sets the stage for Lone Oaks Farm to be the premier 4-H Center in the region, offering a high-end experience for area youth, 4-H campers, amateur, and competitive shooters.
