CREW KC January Lunch
The January CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) Kansas City was quite a timely topic for me this year. Advertised as ‘Women & Risk Taking’ the panel discussion focused on business ownership and start up.
Moderated by Jill Biesma, President, Environmental Advisors and Engineers, the speakers included:
Becky Freetly-Graber – President, Candid Marketing & Communications
Jane Jeffries – President, Kansas Asphalt / KAI Total Pavement Management
LeAnn Carlson – Owner & CEO, Lauren’s Hope
LeeAnn Carlson founded her company in a niche market by discovering a need for quality, stylish medical ID jewelry. She has always had a drive to be self-supported and looks for challenges. A healthy dose of Irrational Optimism goes a long way.
Becky Freetly-Graber definitely represents her company’s spirit. Candid might be an understatement. Including a slightly biting comment toward millennials, her insights were valuable about how to start a company: Know you want to lead. Confidence, organizational skills, energy, and believing you will succeed are key.
Jane Jeffries – Her website says it all ‘Sidewalks, Parking Lots, and Relationships’. Previously a veterinarian, she found a business opportunity and need in the market for quality parking lot repair. Emotional intelligence and a passion for customer service has been critical to her success.
I’ve been a member of CREW Kansas City since 2004. From leadership experience, to networking, to learning the business of real estate, CREW has a lot to do with where I’ve taken this career so far. We continue to have great programming and a growing membership, not to mention a national network of over 9,000 women making deals all over the country. I hope to see you at our next event!
